For the benefit of the left, Bill Maher needs to get it right.

LinkedIn on Monday, August 10, 2026

I’m a fan of Bill Maher.   He’s funny and I especially like the way he’s fearlessly critical of everyone out there in politics, regardless of their party affiliation.  The way he blends serious and comedic commentary is spot on.  But he’s not perfect and I’m sure he knows it.

The Boss Wants This Money.”  …How should we react to companies paying Trump for favorable treatment?

LinkedIn on Sunday, August 2, 2026

The quote in the header is from the Wall Street Journal article by Josh Dawsey, et al, July 30, 2026.

Donald Trump is in a world of trouble.  If the Democrats takeover the House and the Senate, he’s going to be impeached in the House, for the third time, but this time he’s going to be convicted in the Senate and thrown out of office. …As my granddaughter would say, “Uh oh, Spaghetti-ohs!”

Ending the Grift and Setting Things Right

LinkedIn on Wednesday, July 29, 2026

When the Democrats takeover control of the House and maybe the Senate too, and eventually The White House hopefully in 2028, they’re going to spend a great deal of their time re-establishing the integrity of our federal government.  No doubt, this process will include holding Donald Trump accountable for money he’s stolen from the American people, for himself, family and major contributors.  Will Trump and his benefactors end up serving time for the grift they have perpetrated?  I don’t know.  You and I would go to jail, but then we’re not President of the United States, his children or politically powerful billionaires.

Teaching Cursive

LinkedIn on Sunday, July 26, 2026

Tired of watching and reading about politics – and Trump in particular?  I am.  He’s been taking up way too much of my time.  Let’s talk about something else.

In 2010, our federal government decided that it was time to include “keyboarding” in the curriculum of our public schools – in place of learning handwriting.  There are only so many hours in the day.  Something had to go to make room for preparing our nation’s children for the emerging technologies of our time.

The Relative Value of an American Life

LinkedIn on Tuesday, July 21, 2026

Let’s start by forgetting about the military and civilian people who have been wounded as a result of United States foreign policy.  It’s not that the wounded are somehow irrelevant.  Hurting people, at whatever level, is an awful thing to do.  It’s just that I have something I want to say and it helps me make my point if I focus on the dead.

The “Last Laugh Hypothesis” and the insidious nature of capitalism.

LinkedIn on Sunday, July 12, 2026

The “Last Laugh Hypothesis” is my name for the insidious way in which capitalism overthrows dictatorships, effecting regime change without our having to apply military force.  As it turns out, all we need to do, for example, to convert Russia and eventually China into free democracies is inject our capitalism into their economies by virtue of positive, free trade policies and market development by American companies.  It takes time and we need to be patient, but it works.

Trump wouldn’t know a communist if he tripped over one of them.

LinkedIn on Wednesday, July 8, 2026

Our President, no doubt with the assistance of White House resident white nationalist Stephen Miller, has started telling people that Democrats, particularly those who describe themselves as democratic socialists, are communists.  According to Trump, if these communists take charge of our government, it will be the end of the world as we know it.

Let’s help President Trump out.

LinkedIn on Wednesday, June 24, 2026

I’m worried.  The lower the President’s standing in the polls, the more hardcore his initiatives.  Donald Trump is becoming increasingly desperate and reckless as his polling collapses and a potential Democratic takeover of the House and maybe the Senate too approaches.  Increasingly desperate and reckless, but to do what exactly?  Given the authority his position commands and radical loyalty of his dwindling base, maybe we should be thinking in terms of letting him down easily lest he do something unimaginably stupid.

Does a democracy really benefit from live, 24×7 coverage of everything?

LinkedIn on Thursday, June 18, 2026

I used to think so.  I used to believe…  No, it was more definite than that.  …I used to be certain that, if a free press covered everything that happens, a reasonably well-educated electorate that was reading and watching it all would draw its own conclusions and do the smart and right thing.

And then the basically good people of these United States elected Donald J. Trump President. Twice.

Gold Leaf or Tar and Feathers?

LinkedIn on May 30, 2026

According to various sources, President Trump has taken $5 million from funds allocated by Congress for our national parks to gild selected bronze statues of horses in the District with real gold leaf.  He’s not just painting them gold color, you know, with exterior grade Behr paint from Home Depot which sells, top of the line, for a breathtaking $70 a gallon.  No.  He’s covering them with real 24 carat gold.

National Insecurity, the Financial Kind

LinkedIn on Wednesday, May 27, 2026

Those of us who follow the news are well aware that President Trump has made us less safe. He’s done so primarily by gross mis-deployment of our military assets, unnecessary depletion of ordinance and by trashing relationships with our allies, by virtue of his generally incompetent leadership and by lying so frequently that, for all practical purposes, you can’t believe anything he says. To our friends and enemies alike around the world, the United States is no longer invincible.
