The government of world’s greatest economy misses the point.
Standing there at the podium from the tush of our government in Mar-a-Lago, and then later in The White House situation room, our President, wearing a white trucker hat with “USA” embroidered on it, announces and then watches our attack on Iran, code name “Epic Fury.” The imagery of it screams immaturity and incompetence.

President Trump has been losing in court, most recently and dramatically as evidenced by yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling nullifying tariffs he has instituted during his second term. His is in an increasingly difficult position for a leader whose personality can’t accept being wrong.

As President Trump is beginning to realize – despite his limited intelligence and reasoning distorted by the malignant narcissism by which he is afflicted – voters don’t care about rates of inflation. What they care about is prices. That the rate of inflation for a given item might be zero is inconsequential if the price of that item is so high as to make it unbearably expensive.

Our country’s founders deserve enormous credit for having crafted the Constitution, the usefulness of which has survived far longer than they had any right to expect. That said, it has recently become obvious that their foresight was not unlimited. Recent events, well more than two centuries later, are challenging the structure of the government they created in ways they could not have anticipated. We can forgive them if their vision was flawed.

It’s time we need to start saying, out loud and repeatedly, what everyone here and abroad knows full well. Donald Trump isn’t just stupid or confused, doesn’t just fail to understand how to solve our problems. And his politics has nothing to do with it. The problem is that he’s actually mentally ill, suffering from clinical “malignant narcissism” according to many psychologists. As such, he cares only about himself. It’s the simple, but nonetheless profound diagnosis that explains everything he does.

“We, the people” – by which, in today’s America, I am referring principally to extremely large retailers – have the technology to enable instantaneous dynamic individual customer pricing. Depending upon your gender, age, race and ethnicity, estimated income, what you had for breakfast last Thursday and other factors, major retailer AI computers will make sure you are spending the maximum you are willing to pay. And you won’t have a clue it’s happening to you. Congrats to all of us. Who says American will never make any profound contribution to world culture?

Media are increasingly describing President Trump as a “lame duck” – so named after the bird that can no longer fly. Constitutionally unable to run for a third term – or win re-election if he did – it doesn’t surprise anyone that Trump is thinking about his legacy. Replacing the historic East Wing of The White House with the “Trump Ballroom.” Renaming the Kennedy Center. What’s next? “Trump…” instead of “Dulles International” or “Reagan National Airport”? Pretending to be only musing about putting his head on Mt. Rushmore or maybe a new coin of the realm.

When I was a kid, there were no smart phones and you could still tune up your car with a handful of ordinary tools, without a graduate degree in computer science. Chips and software that would humanize machines that can out-think us were science fiction. Not anymore. Today, their reality is singlehandedly supporting the stock market at levels that were once considered astronomical and powering the growth of our economy – masking problems elsewhere that might otherwise suggest an early stage recession.
