As you may have heard, Trump Consigliere Pam Bondi, better known as Attorney General of the United States whose Department of Justice couldn’t be more misnamed, has sent a letter to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

In that letter she pretends to offer a commonsense solution to the mayhem ICE and other elements of the Trump government are causing in Minneapolis.  For no specific benefit to Minnesotans – no promise, for example, to pull ICE out of his state – Bondi tells Walz that he needs to do the following…

1.  “Share all of Minnesota’s records on Medicaid and Food and Nutrition programs” including SNAP.  Bondi will then claim to have discovered widespread fraud – while continuing to sit on the Epstein files in violation of federal law ordering their release, I might add.

2.  “Repeal the sanctuary policies that have led to so much crime and violence in your state.” Why? Because, in the heads of the white nationalists running our government, immigrants are the fall guys du jour, the root of all evil.

3.  “Allow the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice to access voter rolls” subsequent to which Trump and Bondi will claim to have discovered massive voter fraud without which Trump would have won the state in 2020 in particular, but in other election cycles as well.

AG Bondi’s letter isn’t a reasonable, apolitical proposal.  It’s extortion, plain and simple, intended to prove to an authoritarian, mentally ill President, suffering from malignant narcissism, that he can make even his most determined opponents, elected officials and ordinary citizens alike, kneel to his will.

It is behavior that reeks from desperation and stupidity.  The more he pushes, the lower his standing in the polls, the more his support by Republicans in Congress weakens and the less likely federal judges and Supreme Court justices are to rule in favor of Trump’s self-serving definition of the rule of law.
