Reason #3 NOT To Vote For Steve Schuh: He has a Second Amendment problem.
For the record, the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads as follows:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Reason #2 NOT To Vote For Steve Schuh: He’s pro-life.
Once again, these reasons not to vote for Steve are numbered to make them easy to identify. Otherwise, the numbers don’t mean anything.

Hi. See the person in the picture? His name is Steve Schuh. Mr. Schuh is one of three Delegates, in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 31. He’s currently completing his second four-year term. More to the point of this series of articles, he’s running to become the County Executive of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. (I live in Maryland too, but in another county.)

So you’ve probably been wondering, what’s happened to the regular articles I had been publishing to rid the halls of Congress of the unproductive, inefficient and inept? Am I a fair-weather columnist who only writes when the frenzied excitement of a coming election reaches its pinnacle? Have I contracted a form of political Stockholm Syndrome and have actually become one of the political hacks that have been holding our government hostage?

I wasn’t going to write anything about guns. It’s not that I don’t think we need vastly more restrictive gun control legislation, it’s just that I’m still depressed about November’s election. Nothing new. I just can’t get over the fact that, with very few exceptions, we re-elected the same Congress and President that failed to resolve any of the major economic, financial or social crises we’ve been facing. The President is now focusing on his legacy, like any of us really care, and waiting for the economy to recover on its own so he can take credit for it. Bummer.

With the Fiscal Cliff looming larger and larger on the horizon, people are complaining that it seems to be “business as usual” in Washington, that the election seems to have accomplished nothing. The Democrats and Republicans are still a good distance apart, no closer to a compromise, not really. Meanwhile, our lame (duck) President, rather than demonstrating constructive leadership, has said, “What the heck,” and is going for broke, both figuratively and literally.

Imagine that you’re at a wedding reception and you happen to notice that a friend’s fly is down. Stuff like that happens, even to the best of us. What do you do? Well, you tell him privately, maybe while standing between him and the bridesmaid he developed the hots for during the ceremony, before she notices. What you don’t do is borrow the mike from the wedding singer and tell him publically – and then hit on that same bridesmaid. That’s not how good friends treat each other. Real friends treat each other with respect, kindness and the humility that comes from knowing that none of us is perfect.
Why did the challengers even bother to run for office?

With one understandable exception, the challengers in Maryland’s Senate and Congressional races were soundly defeated. That one exception was the contest in Congressional District 6 in which 86 year-old Republican incumbent Roscoe Bartlett lost to Democrat John Delaney, who is less than 86 years old.
