One term wonder.

That’s President Trump, on the left, with one of his most trusted advisors.

Yes, that person – on the right! – in the featured image for this piece, copped from a cover of Mad Magazine, is Alfred E. Neuman, rumored to be on President-Elect Trump’s short list for Secretary of Defense. No, that’s not a typo. Alfred asked Mr. Trump if he could be in charge of the wall along our border with Mexico or “The Fence” as Alfred likes to call it and Mr. Trump misheard him. And the rest will be history.

A Suggestion For Soon-To-Be Mayor-Elect Pugh

Catherine PughBaltimore has thousands of unemployed and under-employed, unskilled and low-skilled workers. These people need jobs, the sooner the better.  It’s an urgent problem of the highest order.

As it turns out, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there are 48,000 openings for truck drivers across the country.  Quite probably, many hundreds of these jobs are in the greater Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. The pay is good, at a median hourly rate of $20/hour plus benefits, and many employers will pay for training.

Store Size and Ripple Effects

As you may know from articles we’ve written recently about Kimco’s plans to redevelop its Owings Mills Mall property, we’ve been encouraging Councilman Julian Jones to introduce a bill limiting store size. Why? The answer is, “ripple effects.”

Last Night’s Meeting

The image below is a picture of the room at the Owings Mills Library where Councilman Julian Jones – standing in the front of the room – held the first of two town meetings to talk about Kimco’s plans for its Owings Mills Mall property. It’s taken from the far back corner. There are actually more people attending than the picture shows because we couldn’t back up far enough to get a wider shot. There are more people behind the shot on the left and on the right, lined up against the wall.

60,000 SF

Closed Walmart

Closed Walmart

60,000 SF (square feet) is a significant number for the families that live and businesses that operate in Baltimore County’s District 4.

It’s the maximum size of any individual store showing on Kimco’s site plan for the redevelopment of its Owings Mills Mall property. That’s the site plan that is currently under review for approval by Baltimore County – a simple picture of which is included at the bottom of this article.

In a heartbeat.

“Almost all of these (Walmarts) were left empty when the company built a larger store nearby.” That’s a quote from an important article included in this post.

As you may already know, Baltimore Rising is encouraging residents of Baltimore County’s District 4, represented by Councilman Julian Jones, to voice their opposition to Kimco’s redevelopment plan for its Owings Mills Mall property. Kimco’s current plan is to build a big box store strip center on the property, anchored by a new Walmart Supercenter.
