Hardly a day has gone by since Donald Trump was first elected when I haven’t heard some pundit explaining why.  How is it possible that a majority of American voters have elected an ethically challenged person suffering, according to experts, from “malignant narcissism” – hence his proclivity for authoritarianism and complete disregard for law and order – a person as dumb as he is nuts, President?

So many explanations, but are they obscuring the obvious?

Yesterday, I saw that Kamala Harris may be running again for President in 2028.  I voted for her and for Hillary Clinton.  I believed, with certainty and enthusiasm, that they both, albeit for different reasons, would have made really excellent Presidents.  Far, far better than Donald Trump who doesn’t understand or believe in the government he has twice been elected to manage.

Donald Trump has run for President three times.  He lost when he ran against Joe Biden, a good man, but poor candidate if ever there was one.  But then both times Trump won he was running against women who were superior to him in all respects.  Could it be that simple?

Occam’s Razor:  The simplest explanation is, more often than not, the correct one.  Maybe party-specific messaging and various socio-cultural issues have less to do with it than the obvious.  Could it just be that a majority of American voters – female voters included – don’t want, can’t imagine a woman being President of the United States of America?

I don’t know.  What I do know is that, when Trump’s successor runs for President in 2028, I’m not willing to bet it all again on a woman Democratic candidate, however qualified she may be.  Maybe later, hopefully soon, but not now.  There’s way too much at stake.

I know how simple-minded and unenlightened it sounds.  My apologies to my mother, sister, wife and daughter – and women everywhere – but I’ll be voting for a male candidate in the next Democratic Presidential primary.
