For those of us who watched Attorney General Pam Bondi’s testimony yesterday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, we’ve got to wonder…  Is she dishonest or just stupid?

As a rule, the more aggressively a politician – or five year old for that matter – avoids answering questions about suspect behavior, the more his or her obstinance affirms and exaggerates the behavior he or she is avoiding talking about.  The more serious people believe that behavior must be.  And the more fervent one’s opponents become in pursuit of the truth.

Bondi refused to answer questions posed by Democrats on the committee – questions their Republican counterparts wouldn’t ask – choosing instead to attack Democratic Senators personally using carefully prepared, highly detailed notes.  She refused to answer questions about the $50,000 cash-in-the-paper-bag that Trump’s “Boarder Czar” Tom Homan took.  Even worse, she declined to answer questions about pictures related to the salacious relationship between Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.

Simple answers to the questions would have been far less newsworthy.  What Bondi did instead was wildly offensive and has no doubt made matters worse for the gorilla for whom she works – the independence of the Justice Department be damned – and who was clearly the audience of one for her politically tawdry performance.

Even by the cheapest theatrical standards, Ms. Bondi’s performance was poor, failing to convince anyone of the legitimacy of whatever she thought she was selling.
