Topgolf? You’ve got to be kidding.

A conscientious reader of our website has sent us the following article from the Wednesday, February 13, 2019 edition of the Baltimore Sun.  It’s by Daniel Parsons, an English teacher at Frederick Douglass High School and it is essential reading for anyone who cares about the City and its people.  If you have trouble reading the version that you can see below, even after clicking on it to make it larger, you’ll need to find the article on the Sun’s website.  …As for the uneven edges around the image of the paper version, it was cut out by a younger member of my family who is still perfecting his skills with a scissors.  Until then, “Good work!”

Please read it.

Here’s the thing…  We dare you.  We dare you to read Mr. Parson’s column in the Sun and tell us why the Mayor of Baltimore and the City Council should spend one minute, one dollar encouraging a Topgolf driving range and bar to come to Baltimore?  Over by M&T Bank stadium.  For the benefit of a handful of developers who, so it happens, own the Horseshoe Casino which, to the disappointment of many and embarrassment of Mayor Pugh and the Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC) is “under-performing,” to put it mildly.

The BDC, if you don’t already know, is the city’s non-profit organization, the purpose of which is to focus development on the downtown/harbor area, through projects of highly questionable value to the city’s families, but the funding of which helps certain candidates get elected and stay in office.  Harsh words to be sure, but nonetheless true.

What are the Mayor and City Council thinking?  Where is their heart, let alone their commitment to their constituents?  Have they no sense of priorities?
